Victorian Bricks

If you are refurbishing, repairing or renovating a Victorian building you will be well advised to choose matching Victorian bricks, so the house still keeps the same feel – as opposed to new bricks of a different style which could break the building up. You can send a photo of the Victorian brick building to the team at Brick Hunter and they will help find the matching Victorian bricks for you so you can match them to the existing home.

Victorian Bricks are also known as English Bricks, these are typically old imperial sized, handmade and, obviously, Victorian. These bricks are ideal for renovations and extensions of properties from the Victorian era. You will often find that Victorian bricks have a characteristic grey end or header; these can be known as blue ends or blue headers.

The use of brick was highly pivotal to the success of some pretty major engineering works such as railways, arches, tunnels and sewers during the Victorian period. Concrete was still in its infancy during the Victorian era, therefore bricks were the way forward for famous designers such as Brunel and Telford.

During the Victorian period brickwork was very popular for housing too, and the style of the brickwork went through many different changes. During the early stages of the Victorian period the idea of using lots of shapes with the multi coloured brickwork was very popular but towards the end of the Victorian period more traditional and vernacular styles of brickwork began to appear.

What style of Victorian brickwork does your building have? Are you keen to match this style or change the pattern with your Victorian bricks?
