Heather Bricks
The heather bricks are reddish purple sand faced clay facing brick, these bricks were very popular in the building of commercial and domestic buildings in London after the war. They have a coarse sand texture and are frogged. Generally speaking this brick is 215 x 102.5 x 65mm in size.
Heather bricks were made by the London Brick Company and are one of 23 different bricks from the company’s range. It is said that bricks from the London Brick Company have been used in the construction of over five million homes.

When building with bricks you may need to cut them, the best option is to cut a brick with just a hammer as this will work find for normal brick cutting work, even for making closure bricks that you need to go around openings in your walls or finishing off corners.
If you have a lot of bricks that need cutting you may choose to use a table or bricks saw which will ensure repeat accuracy when cutting bricks. It is recommended that you equip the brick saw with a straight brick diamond blade for cutting brick only.
It is highly recommended that you mark and chisel a grove in the brick before cutting it; this will then help you cut a straight line in the brick.
Remember to wear safety goggles and a mask when you’re cutting bricks so you can avoid getting dust in your eyes or airways. If you find there is too much dust when cutting dry bricks, then wet the bricks and you will find the dust decreases, the cutting process will be slightly slower though.
Try and refrain from hammering the chisel directly into the brick with great force when making the grove as this can cause the brick to split or break unevenly.
