Bricks For A Drive
Brick is an excellent choice for your driveway as a brick driveway will enhance the look and feel of a house, it blends in well with the landscaping and offers a real ease when it comes to maintenance. Many people choose bricks for a drive because it’s possible to lay the drive yourself with little help from the professionals.
However, as with all jobs, getting the right brick for the job is a very important part to the project, you need to consider the colour of the bricks for a drive along with the size and strength of the bricks you would like for your drive. Some people choose to match the bricks for a drive to the bricks of their house to give the house and drive an ‘attached’ feeling but what other options are there?
You may choose concrete bricks for your drive; these are relatively cheap and will come in lots of different sizes for you to choose from. The colour of concrete bricks can be known to fade over time but a concrete brick drive is known to last for at least twenty years.
Alternatively you may choose clay for a drive, these bricks are slightly more expensive and the price varies by colour, the clay bricks are extremely hard wearing and due to the fact they are of a natural colour they will not fade. Clay bricks for a drive will last a very long time, in fact long enough to outlast you and your kids if maintained correctly.
Choosing the colour of bricks for a drive can be a tricky task and it may be wise to have a look around the neighbourhood. See what colour bricks your neighbours have chosen for their drives, does their colour scheme look good or does it stick out like a sore thumb?
Generally speaking a lighter toned pavement works well in darker surroundings but it’s important that you are aware that lighter colour pavements will show tyre marks and stains much clearer than a darker pavement. In lighter surroundings a darker brick drive does work well but if you’re not sure which bricks to choose for your drive why not consider grey as it works well in dark and light surroundings.
You then need to decide if you are going for all one colour brick on your drive or if you would like a pattern involving other brick colours, would you like rectangular bricks or shaped bricks, would you like plain bricks or patterned bricks.
